Is Nintendo Moving?

According to the Seattle Times, the sales, advertising and marketing divisions for Nintendo of America will be moved to either New York City or San Francisco. This doesn't mean that Nintendo is forsaking it's Washington roots for the glitz of the big city, the headquarters will be staying in Redmond.
Earlier plans had been made to expand its Redmond, WA offices on an additional 550,000 square feet. The deputy planning director for the city of Redmond, Jim Roberts, told the Seattle Times that though NOA had plans ready for city council awhile ago, the company was awaiting final approval from it's Japanese headquarters when talks mysteriously stopped.
"For one reason or another, it's been well over a year that we've been waiting for them to proceed," he said.
Nintendo is reportedly looking to sell the 550,000 square feet of property that would have been used for the expansion; with rumors also flying that Microsoft is a potential buyer. I'd highly doubt that move taking place, but you know what they say: "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." Maybe the whole thing is a diabolical plan between Microsoft and Nintendo to meld into a giant fighting robot and take down Sony! Any ideas?

Part of this is a laying off of nearly everyone working on Nintendo Power at V-Design, the art studio who did all the strategy articles and design work on the magazine. Supposedly only the publisher and one or two veterans are moving out to New York. Sad sad, but there's some really talented designers up for grabs in the Sea-Town area now.
