Nintendo DS Getting Drawn To Life

Drawn to Life, coming to Nintendo DS later this Fall.

THQ announced that a new game is being developed for the Nintendo DS, by 5TH Cell, which allows the player to draw his/her own hero, a first for an action-adventure game. The game, titled Draw to Life, will be their first original title for the DS and is set to provide "an unprecedented gameplay experience where players traverse numerous worlds with a hero they create using the Nintendo DS stylus." THQ also says that you'll be able to draw 'environmental elements' that will help your hero along the way. Here's a bit more about the game:

In Drawn to Life, players will help save a distant village from the shadow-like evil that has covered it in darkness. Using one of four different Hero forms, including Flying Hero and Aquatic Hero, players will create their own unique hero to conquer a variety of different environments including snowy fields, tropical islands and dark forests. The robust drawing tool contains different methods of creation in addition to numerous colors, brush types and stamps that will allow for complete freedom to develop one-of-a-kind characters and game elements. Drawn to Life will also feature the ability for players to trade their created heroes with friends via the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi function.

It sounds exciting and, if the logo is any indication, it looks cute. Hopefully, some good screenshots will be up on the developers site as soon as it's done undergoing maintenance. Look for Drawn to Life to drop sometime this fall. So, given that information, what kind of hero would you draw?

I remember a few days before Hurricane Katrina, the Brute and I were playing around with Magic Pengal. He created a little blue blob with a yellow horn and dubbed him...Lil' Poo'. He was awesome! ...but that's off-topic, sort of.

IS it a first for an action adventure game?

I thought Magical Pengal did this...

But then I never played it, so am probably wrong...

This looks like it could be a really cool game. I can't wait for screenshots and videos!

On second thought, the whole "Aquatic Hero" and "Flying Hero" thing kind of reminds me of the costumes in Contact. I LOVE that game. I think I will go play it now.

Magical Pengel was an RPG, not an action adventure game, but Graffiti Kingdom (the sequel) very much was an action adventure game. So, no, this isn't the first. Then again, they also said it'd be "the first original title for the DS". what? Honestly, I think game companies just pull these "firsts" out of their arses.

Sorry, fellas, I made a type-o...this game will be THEIR first original title...not THE first ever. Sorry. /blush

Sounds very interesting. I wonder how they will handle the animation of your drawn character? Like, what if your character has no legs or arms? Or is running around is 6 inch stiletto pumps? I wonder how much original creativity you will have with the drawing and how much will be choosing parts and pieces from provided art? Some screenshots may help clarify.

If it works anything like Graffiti Kingdom (which it probably does) you have to define certain parts as legs and arms, and if it doesn't have legs or arms it can just bounce or roll around.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
