Sonic The Hedgehog: What Could Have Been

This footage came from a former Sega employee, and it was meant as a pitch for a new Sonic game as a pitch that probably would've taken the franchise in an entirely new direction had it managed to make it through development. Gone is the super-speed and jumping, instead we have stealth action and platforming with rings being used as ammunition against Sonic's enemies. Personally, I would've loved to see this reach fruition, seeing as how godawful most of the recent entries into the series have been.

I'm not so sure of this type of Sonic-- It seems to be just another side-scrolling platformer consisting of gameplay that could be compared to franchises such as the Mega Man series, only you're a slightly different blue-coloured hero.

I can percieve how, in a way, this style of Sonic the Hedgehog actually did make it to consumers.. Did somebody say Sonic Adventures? Sonic Heroes? No? Oh well.

Sonic is an icon of my childhood. As such, I don't particularly mind the slump he' going through right now because of the idealized image I hold of his past. (I'm blinded) But I have to admit it would be nice to see some decent games now and again. Oh, and Tails Prower-- He's smexy.

Feh, looks like just about any other early 90's shoot em' up side scroller. Although, the ABC sonic cartoon was awesome, the game they had planned would have Sucked with a capital S.

Meh. I'm not much of a sonic fan, and never missed the speed since Super Mario World introduced high speed action to the Nintendo mix (and seeing as how I wanted it all, that was a pretty awesome package).

But this game is waaaaay too slow and awkwardly-paced. You only realize how little substance there is to Sonic games when you slow the gameplay down to normal (or crawl in this case). I'm not saying it's a bad thing to streamline the game for Speed. But taking speed away is taking away the fun. Cue F-Zero "Desert Wind" BGM.

Yeah...probably shouldn't be Sonic in there, but for a 16-bit game, I think it could have done well. Maybe if it were someone besides Sonic and didn't have itself centered around Sonic's themes, there would be enough freedom to really make that game into something, IMO.

It's metal gear sonic!!!!!! It looked cool, the moves, the stealth, the franchise is in a weird, a VERY weird place right now. It's dying or already dead, too bad, i have good memories with Sonic.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
