Square Announces All Sorts Of Good Stuff, Includes More On Last Remnant And Star Ocean!

Star Ocean

At a Square-Enix event, today, it was announced that a whole bunch of new stuff is getting ready to come out, along with a visit from some old friends. At the top of my list are Star Ocean: The First Departure and Star Ocean: The Second Evolution for the PSP. Both are remakes of the original (which I only played on an emulator thanks to DeJap's awesome translation work) and Star Ocean: Second Story (another game that I have in my possession). Both games will feature "redone graphics that mix 2D and 3D elements, voice acting, and new cinematics that include animation from well-known Japanese animation house Studio IG. In addition, the games will feature new content that includes new playable characters." If that wasn't enough, a fourth Star Ocean was announced as being under development with Tri-Ace. I truly hope they do some wonderful things with this series in the new installment, but dammit if I didn't already have enough reasons to buy a PSP and 2 more get added to the list!

In addition to this plethora of wonderful Star Ocean news, even bigger news came out of the press event. Chocobo's Dungeon: Toki Wasure No Meikyuu" (or, roughly translated, The Dungeon of Forgotten Time)" was announced as being under development for the Wii as Chocobo's Dungeon series is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The following information was given about this game:

"...the game is set in a world called Vil, a land of forgotten time where people have lost their memories. The lost memories will figure into gameplay, as you will see them appear on the game field as glittering objects. ...the game would include something special for fans of Chocobo Tales."

Sounds fun! The Chocobo's Dungeon series, though somewhat basic, was adorable and I enjoyed playing around with it and watching others play it. Besides that, more information was given about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers and The Last Remnant, the newest franchise from Square-Enix in a long time that will appear on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. ...but for those details, just follow the link over to Gamespot for their first hand experience! Still, what's my favorite news? Star Ocean on PSP! What's yours?

Sony must be paying a ton of money to Square-Enix or something. Otherwise, I don't understand why they continue to support the utterly underperforming handheld over the DS.

Actually I think the PSP is the perfect handheld to port the Star Ocean series to. While I'm NO PSP fanboy myself, I feel that not every game needs two tiny screens of joy.

This just gives me another reason to stack up some dough and pick up a PSP eventually.

Thank GOD it's not another FF remake (oh wait, they've already announced three more).

I'm in the same pain as you Timsy. I think this might finally push me in to giving into the PSP. But the part I'm MOST excited about is that they are finally releasing another Chocobo's Magical Dungeon (ironically enough, we only have the second one). I think it's about time...but if SquareEnix could hurry up and return Torneko's Magical Dungeon back to us, that would actually be even better to hear!

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
