The Sims Coming to the Silver Screen

Variety reports that Fox has acquired rights to make EA's The Sims into a live-action, feature-length film. Why? Fox sees dollar signs; The Sims is the best-selling PC game in history, "with worldwide sales topping 85 million, bringing in over $1.6 billion." And what in the world could this movie be about? According to Sims Studio head Rod Humble:
"'The SIMS has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Humble. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."
No, Rod. No, I can't.

"Sims," even.
Oh, c'mon. The Sims has 'traditional' written all over it.
START FIRES
START FIRES BILLY
This strikes me as something even Boll wouldn't touch.
Personally, I can't wait till Catan comes out in the cinema.
As big as a Sims fan as I am, I just can't see this working, I don't see how its going to work.
People (gay and straight) like to play the Sims to make same sex characters make out with each other. So, if the Sims movie is full of girl on girl and boy on boy action, then yeah it'll be a hit. But since we all know it won't be...good lord is this movie gonna suck ass!
Y'know, after thinking it over, I could see a fun movie in The Sims... I mean if they took the Pleasantville/Strangetown storylines and made a movie centered around Bella Goth, Pollination Technician 16, Nina Calinete, Don Lothario, etc, there's the basis for a fun story.
Heh, I don't see this working. If it was based off my lone experience of playing the sims it would go something like this.
"Sally decided to sit down and watch some TV for entertainment, however when she got up to get some food she soon learned that all the doors in the room were now walls"
And... yeah.
Beyond that it's just your regular dramafest fancy pants movie?
just... how?
i don't see this working...
i mean, either its a really fcked up surrealist movie (in a good way, a la twilight zone) or its pure crap...
either way the title sims is not necesary
I just hope that EA/Maxis doesn't drop any money into this. Let Fox take the hit. Because it is not going to be a major hit or anything remotely like that.
