Alan Wake Is Vista Exclusive...On PC, That Is

Mr. Alan Wake!

Yes, Alan Wake, Remedy's upcoming thriller, will not be exclusive to PCs, just exclusively on Windows Vista for PCs, meaning that anyone running XP or below will not be able to play it. I present to you the word from the top:

YouGamers: So - last two questions, we promise! The biggest things with PCs at the moment are Windows Vista and DirectX 10. Anything special for DX10?

Mäki: [puts on a formal-sounding voice] We haven’t announced anything for DX10 yet…

YouGamers: Just to confirm things then, the PC version is only for Windows Vista and not for XP machines…

Järvilehto: That's correct - the game is Vista exclusive

Actually, I have no idea if he's a top, or even what he looks like. At any rate, sorry XP users. No scary Alan Wake for you...or for me, but I plan on buying it for the Xbox 360 anyways. Speaking of Xbox 360, the developers said making games for PC and Xbox 360 are similar and in that way, it's actually "quite fun." Good for them! Perhaps if people have fun making the games, the end result will reflect that. I look forward to more information on Alan Wake as time goes on. After playing both Max Payne and Max Payne 2, I'm confident this team will do very well. I suggest you go and read the article, if you're interested, for more information. It's a good read.

I'm not sure I understand all the hype for this game.

I've yet to even hear what the hell the game is about, or what type of gameplay it has. All I hear is the name and that it's apparently got good graphics.

I've been keeping track of this game's development through the media (I too loved the Max Payne series and look forward to this one on the 360) and glean this much about it - it'll definitely be narrative driven; the gameplay should be pretty much action oriented, though I'm not sure how much will involve shooting, melee combat, and such; there will most likely be quick decisive situations involving the use of physics in the environment (action puzzles?); heavy focus on the strategic use of dynamic lights and shadows in gameplay; real time dramatic shifts in the weather and day/night cycles that have great impact on gameplay. I can't wait!! :-D
