AO For Violence: It's happened Before

Apparently Manhunt 2 isn't the first game to be given the death kiss of an Adults Only rating solely for violence: it's happened once before. That's right. Once. Duke Ferris over at Game Revoution posted this video of said game, better known as Thrill Kill which, oddly enough, also deals with mental hospital patients doing bad things to each other.

Virgin Interactive was going to publish it for the Playstation, but then they got bought by EA just a few weeks before the game's launch. EA, however, immediately pulled the plug and said they'd never publish such a violent game. The four-person fighting game engine developed for the game was used in Wu-Tang Shaolin Style, however.

Personally, I think the gameplay looks pretty amateurish and cartoony. Not only that, but I'm pretty certain that the last few Mortal Kombat games were more violent than this... I guess some people just get queezy when they have to watch amputee porn fights.

I was so disappointed when Thrill Kill was cancelled! Luckily since the game was completed, I bought a CD-R copy from one of the creators. Belladonna rocks my socks.

Yeah, I've played it too. That game is baddass. My favorite is the little leather midget on stilts, he rocks my world.

Yeah, the dropped Thrill Kill, and they released Wu Tang: Shaolin Style instead. Same exact game (including violence) just with Wu-Tang characters. Totally weak.

Bonus: Coolest character in Thrill Kill, is Judas. Half Ryu, half Ken, can't go wrong there.

Did it get AO rating? I thought it got a M or wasn't rated yet, but EA, in a strange twist, thought it was too violent and canceled it.

I don't think the game was rated AO for violence. it was rated AO for content. (characters, etc)

Mortal Kombat violence FAR outshines what happened in Thrill Kill these days, you just didn't have the mentally deranged, handicapped, etc fighting in it.

yeah...I think it seems "pretty weak" for violence to get an AO for that...I haven't played the game so I can't say too much about the rest.
