DeathNote DS TV Spot

I've often wondered how the intriguing DeathNote manga could be made into a game, and this Japanese commercial doesn't really enlighten me on that point. There are clearly maps, and some sort of scheming, but the item screens that appear on the lower screen underneath the character kind of baffle me. Considering that all of the pleasure of DeathNote's great storyline lies in being surprised by the twists and turns that take place between the many characters' wits and ways of thinking, controlling all that would seem to take all the fun out of that. Perhaps the game plays in a way similar to Phoenix Wright, with the story progressing while you gather info and items, with the challenge being to know exactly when to use said items. In that case it would make more sense: use the hidden camera to catch your nemesis "in the act", or the thug disguise to "infiltrate" your opponent's space. Sounds pretty dirty to me.

There's a multiplayer elements that sounds kind of cool, but the rest does remind me of a Phoenix Wright like game. It'll probably never come to the states, but with the Death Note anime coming, you never know.

You know a Anime is going to be ungodly popular when the swag hits Hot Topic before the anime release.

Oh look, Ryuk dropped his notebook there. (I wish I was joking, they do sell Death Note Notebooks.)

So we might see them come here, especially with Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk being so popular. Suspense is the new 'in' when it comes to video games.

It's not in the commercial, but the most obvious gameplay for a DS Death Note game would be for the touch screen to act as the notebook paper. Writing down names and watching people die? I guess that could be fun. In a way.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
