Final Fantasy Anniversary Released Today

Rarely a game comes along that sets the standard for generations to come. There are only a handful of console titles that have set the blueprints for specific genres. Puzzlers have Tetris, platformers have Mario, and where would modern RPGs be without Final Fantasy? The original Final Fantasy was released on the Famicom and NES to critical acclaim 20 years ago, and it’s impact can still be felt today in just about every turn-based console RPG that has been released since.
Celebrate the 20th anniversary of this groundbreaking classic RPG with the lovingly remastered edition of Final Fantasy for the PSP. The core gameplay remains the same, but the rest of the title has been completely revised. The graphic overhaul will instantly strike any fan of the original, with the new widescreen 16x9 presentation, the improved perspective on the overhead map, pre-rendered CG cinemas, and sprites so detailed they pop on the crisp screen. The soundtrack has also been remastered, including CD quality tunes that are variations of the original music.
“It is amazing to see how much video games and the video game industry have evolved over the past 20 years,” said Executive Producer Shinji Hashimoto. “With a lot of creativity and the aid of tremendous technological advancements, we have been able to recreate the classic."
I have been following this one very closely since I saw the first screenshots. 20 years ago when I was a tiny Toots, I slaved hours away at the original Final Fantasy and just about every game in the series since then. It was a momentous occasion when my warriors evolved from their super-deformed squat selves, to the tall slender masters of destruction later in the original game. You better believe I will relive the adventure in the palm of my hand.
