Its good to see that some things never change. Tech nerds will always line up days in advance of new gear (*ahem* iPhone) and .hack games will always be coming out with the a new sequel. In this latest trailer to what I believe is the last volume of the GU series, .hack//GU/Redemption, all your favorite elements are back for more: moody lighting, clever and odd little phrases using the G and the U, some operatic background music, and the promise of epic battles spanning time and space that invariably require eye pupil metamorphosis and the production of glowing symbols somewhere on one's person.
I wasn't a fan of the first .hack games, but it looks like CyberConnect2 has really upped the ante with this latest series and dealt with a many of the problems of the debut games. I have to admit that I've avoided these newer games though, if only because I don't have time like did as a kid, and making the time to pass one game is struggle enough, let alone a quickly released series. But I'm curious... what's the general consensus on these newer games? Derision? Or Greatly Upheld?
The three GU games blow the first series out of the water.
Can't wait the third installation. Has some of the best music on an OST I've heard in a while. Actually preferred to play .Hack GU1 over FFXII, as I obtained both in the same week.

I'd recommend it to you as well, Pirate Prince. The first thing that got me interested about the game was that they finally shifted their main plot theme (the comatose effect) into more of a subtheme (it took the anime 4 times before they finally broke away from it). Also, one thing that will help you getting into it is watching .hack//ROOTS (You'll need to go hunt online for it) as in Japan it was aired and the //ROOTS series ended upon the release of the game. I'm only a couple hours into GU2 and I'm loving the motorcycle upgrades.
I loves GU :) I like the first ones, but the new ones are really alot more fun if you ask me.

I'm loving the new series. I actually never played the first but read about it and kind of never felt the need to. Anyway, these games are great, and really fun. I whole-heartedly recommend them.

Yes it definetly looks interesting, specially if you watch the animes! I think it's basically one hell of a big story so if you don't want to play/watch the early entries it would do good to at least read them somewhere.
