Metroid Prime 3 Details

She is truly outrageous...like Jem.

NDAninja, a reader over at GoNintendo, got his hands on a copy of Play in which much is discussed about the upcoming Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Nintendo Wii. It's a game I am very much looking forward to getting my hands on. Reader beware, there be spoilers ahead.

  • First level - You are attacked on a spaceship while meeting with the ship’s captain…action packed
  • Play feels motion controls work better than dual joystick
  • Super sensitive pointer in “advanced” mode
  • Beam stacking ala Super Metroid
  • Visor switch: Hold minus and flick Wiimote in certain directions
  • Boss fight with Ridley at the end of the first level. Excellent difficulty curve by the time you reach the boss.
  • Back tracking in MP3:C makes more sense than in previous Primes
  • Extra development time was to give the game more polish. Nintendo wanted “Twilight Princess” levels of polish. Game is focused on Metroid fans and hardcore gamers, but still accessible to newcomers due to controls.
  • Second level - floating city focused on exploration
  • Larger environments, bloom lighting, better textures than Prime 2
  • Corruption Mode not available in demo
  • Play says it could be the biggest revolution in FPS gaming since Halo.

Mmmm, beam stacking. That is something that I have missed ever since Super Metroid. As for giving the game that "Twilight Princess" level of polish, I can only imagine what the finished product will look like. Unfortunately, no scans will...or at least should...be popping up on the internet as Play's publisher is very strict about such things, according to GoNintendo. Going back to Play, the claim they make about Metroid Prime 3 perhaps being "the biggest revolution in FPS gaming since Halo" makes me very excited. How about you? Having read these details about the early parts of the game, how do you feel about so far?

Halo was only revolutionary in that it was popular: The game itself was woefully average.
Both Metroid Prime and Half-Life 2 were vastly superior, as well as being more revolutionary, than Halo 1 and 2 combined.

I am very excited about this.

Not because it's Metroid. I was never into the whole Metroid thing, and completely missed out on this (as well as Castlevania) in the Nes/Super Nes era.

But because of what the controls can do to the whole FPS genre. Red Steel, Farcry etc just didn't do it with the controls compared to the mouse/keyboard. IMO, Resident Evil 4 is the only game that came close enough to good controls even though it was really a third person game with half way FPS controls.

Let's see if Nintendo can get this right and hopefully others will follow suit.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
