Michael Bay Admits He Wasn't A Fan Of Transformers

michaelbay.jpg

OK, admittedly, that title sounds a lot more ominous than it really is. Apparently the director of the upcoming Transformers movie wasn't a fan of the toy line or the TV series when they originally were launched. That kind of makes sense, seeing as how he was... wait, how old was he when the toys first came out?

"I think I was 2 years old when the toys came out, so I just discovered girls then ... instead of Optimus Prime,"

I'm sure that's just a typo, because I'm pretty sure that most boys start noticing girls when they're around 12 or so. I was 12 when I first danced with a girl at a sixth grade party, and I first got lucky with one... um... no, wait, nevermind. But I was three when Optimus Prime first hit store shelves, and I'm pretty certain that I'm younger than the blockbuster director. But, after looking at the man's IMDB entry, he actually would've been 19 in 1984. Wow, maybe Mike was a late bloomer or something if he was just starting to notice girls then... anyway, I digress, because there's actually good news regarding Bay's fandom:

"It just hit me that if I make this really real, it could be something very new and different. And so I quickly became probably one of the bigger Transformers fans in the world."

Yeah, I know, I was sweating bullets there for a second because it seemed like Michael Bay might not've been a Transformers fan even after he'd made the movie. However, seeing as how awesome the tie-in game's opening cinematic is, I'm glad to hear that Bad Boys director is such a believer in the franchise. If he's as passionate as he sounds, I've got some really big hopes for both the game and the movie.

I love the transformers.. and I have no faith in Bay... he's going to butcher the lore of the transformers until they're nothing left but some cute young actors running around...

Mark my words, the transformers are going to play second fiddle to all the humans in the movie...

I for one will be watching the true transformers on the 4th of July, the cartoon (read: superior) one.

Yes I'm a transformers snob.. but you know I'm right on this one :)

I wasn't a fan back in the 1980s, due to me being born in 1982. My boyfriend is heavily into it and got me into it.
Dan is pretty much on the ball. Am I the only one who thought the Trailers except for the Nickolodeon ones look basicly like 'War of the Worlds'?

I was born in 84, so I didn't get into them untill the Beast Wars series and then I went back and watched the origional.

But yeah, I don't have faith in Bay. His credits are crap. What I don't get is why no decent directors seem to want to touch these comic/cartoon remake films? Certainly there has to be someone with name recognition who is willing to make a decent movie (im looking at you X3: Xmen united)

Michael bay is the biggest hack in Hollywood. Whether he or Uwe Boll is the worse director is something I'll never be able to decide, and even if I didn't hate the robot designs for this movie (and trust me, hate them I do), I'd still have zero faith in this movie being anything but terrible. Bay has never, ever made a good movie, and I don't see him breaking his losing streak any time soon.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
