Neon Genesis Evangelion: Battle Orchestra
Which makes me a little sad to see this lackluster NGE: Battle Orchestra, coming out in Japan at the end of June. Backgrounds look devoid of texture and lifeless, and the EVAs and Angels (those are the bad guys) that you control in battle have such old-school physics and lack of detail, you'd almost think you were watching a PS1 game. Ah, well. The series being much more about human relations than giant battling robots, translating it into a game will always be a flawed attempt. With rumors of a live action movie coming to America sometime before the end of this decade, maybe that is something a little more realistic to look forward to.

The live action movie, assuming it's ever actually made, would be a disaster. The story would be a shell of it's former self and there's no way they could fit all the character development in that made the anime so amazing.
Smart money says the live action version is DOA. Why? Because they're all now focusing on "REBUILD of Evangelion" which releases later on in the year.
ADV simply lacks the resources to get it done, and whatever they turn out would be awful anyway
Seriously, all Japanese anime based games with rare exception are cranked out as fast as possible and are flatly awful. They're marketing tools only.
the game clip totally makes me think 'gundam battle assault'. which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but it does look pretty dated and unimpressive.
Best anime of all time? Oh come on! A depress little guy gets surrounded by hot babe that he doesn't realise they're in love in him and he controls bigger then gods robots and he's still depress. What's wrong with this guy!... and yet i watch all the anime and read all the comics... yes i'm a hypocrite...
I'll give this game a "Meh". It's slow and the gameplay looks like a clone to all anime licenced games.
french guy, if that's all you see when you watch nge, you're missing the point by like 95%. and all the girls being in love with him is unavoidably false.
french guy,
Think of Eva as the anime version of The Watchmen. How The Watchmen is a comic book about comic books, Eva is an anime show about anime shows. It's more about the exploration of the conventions and structure of anime (storytelling, plot, characters, etc) rather than saying something about "the real world."
Of course, most people over here just like the relatively deep story (try naming a mecha anime with the same amount of complexity that rewards multiple viewings!), but there's plenty of depth to the show. I'd say give it another shot if you can. It's a good show.
I recall being scared the first time I saw Evangelion. I think it was the episode in which the Eva Unit 01 goes all hungry shebitch on the poor blading angel (I won't go into detail for the ones who...er...hasn't watched the show yet).
I seriously need to sit down and watch it again, but I think I'm going to buy the platinum edition for the goodies I keep on hearing (mainly updated and some extra content). About the game though; it wasn't that impressive...it would be better as a sort of Action/Adventure/RPG than a fighting game.
Oh, god.
That looks.. horrific.
I'm a huge Evangelion fan (to the point of having played "Girlfriend of Steel" and the N64 one) and just.. wow.
This looks like a sped up version of the N64 game. With more jumping. No graphics changes, just slightly faster. And.. jumping.
Admittedly, it looks like they at least made half a stab in the general direction of Super Smash Bros. But Eva is not, and should not be, SSB. It would be like making a Gundam dance game. The two are good, but *not* together.
I'm not sure whether watching that made me cry inside, or just haemmorage.
The Platinum Edition DVDs are so worth it. They have about a thousand times better picture than the awful VHS-quality original ADV DVDs, and a better translation for the subtitles to boot. They're so, so worth it.
I wish we'd get a half decent DVD of End of Eva sometime, the current Manga one is beyond atrocious.
I saw no problem with Manga Entertainments release of EoE movie.
Then your eyes aren't working properly, because it has probably the worst video transfer I've ever seen on a DVD. Plus, it's not anamorphic widescreen, which means if you're watching it on a widescreen TV the subtitles are cut off of the bottom of the screen. Overall it's just incredibly poorly made.
