New Line Adapting King Of Kong Documentary

The great battle of the Kongs is heading to theaters this fall. Seth Gordon’s classic arcade rivalry documentary King of Kong has been purchased at the recent Slamdance festival by Picturehouse for distribution. The film follows a group of gamers as they try to break the Guinness World Records for some classics such as Q*bert, Joust, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. Sister company, New Line Cinema has reserved the rights to distribute a fictional adaptation of the documentary, they also have control of distribution rights of the original documentary outside of North America. According to Variety, New Line is already working on the adaptation.
Seth Gordon is reprising his role as director of the film, with Michael Bacall (Maniac, Bookies) writing the script and Ed Cunningham set as executive producer. It will be some time until we see the adaptation, but look for the documentary to hit theaters this August.
