Night Trap Week: Night 4 - Midnight Munchies
Welcome back for the fourth night of Night Trap Week, the classic interactive full motion video game for the Sega CD. Join us as we delve deeper into the Martin’s house and unravel the mysteries of their palatial estate. A domestic scene with the augers kicks off tonight’s episode of Night Trap. They pull up a captive SCAT member all trussed up and ready for draining. One clever auger jabs the prisoner with a hypodermic and drains his blood into a series of wine bottles. Oh, is that what the Martins were drinking in the beginning of the game? Ohhhhhh I feel two days behind.
Poor old “Jamaican” Collins leaves the foyer with his picture of “mi boat” in hand. The girls head for the kitchen with an attack of the midnight munchies, for a batch of Cindy’s patented cookies crushed in ice cream. As the ladies prepare their feast, Jeff pulls sister Sara aside for a scandalous exchange.
He asks her if she left the body box unlocked. The body box?!?!? Why would you keep something like the body box locked up? It sounds like a party in the kitchen with everyone for dinner. Pile all of them in the body box and be done with the whole affair. Jeez. Sara notes that she found an auger tri chord in the upstairs closet. Ashley politely offers the siblings some Cindy surprise, which they slyly dump down the kitchen sink unnoticed.
Oh no, watch that auger cross the hallway to setup for the famous “Rape Simulator” Scene. Yeah when this game came out, it was dubbed a “Rape Simulator” because one of the auger’s shadowy figure can be seen in the shower, as Lisa stands in a nightie in front of the mirror. If you don’t trap any augs in this scene, Lisa gets wrangled by an auger with a tri-chord, and the device drains her of her precious bodily fluids. Here we see her escape through the second story bedroom window and the augs amble back into a secret passage.
We join the girls back in the kitchen for more of Cindy’s delicious dish. Since the coast is clear, Jeff opens the famed body box to reveal a perfectly pickled prisoner. Answer me this, why is Jeff always brushing his teeth? Does he have chronic halitosis or a nervous condition? Um, either way, eww!
We cut back out to the driveway, since Ashley is rudely accosted by Weird Eddie. She begins screaming bloody murder and Kelly comes to the rescue again. Poor struggling Eddie was just trying to warn her of impending doom, that’s all. At least Danny sticks behind to get the full rundown of the mysterious augers. He explains that the augers are like vampires with leprocy, their skin keeps falling off their bones. That’s why they wear those ridiculous outfits, to keep their gaping sores covered up. How polite! Eddie whips out his special home-made laser guns to fight those hideous augs. Looks like he stole it off the Plan 9 From Outer Space set, super cheap-tastic.
And we end with one of the most poignant moments in this piece. After months of arduous undercover work, Kelly reveals her true self to Ashley. She tells Ash that she’s an undercover agent and all of the girls are in terrible danger. With unblinking fortitude, Ashley forgives Kelly for her harsh deception and heeds her hasty advice. Acceptance is such a beautiful thing… I feel a slight tear coming on. Oh, It’s all too much, I have to leave you for this evening. /sob
