Night Trap Week: Night 6 - Nightie Night
Welcome back for another installment of our ongoing look into the Sega CD classic Night Trap for Night 6 of Night Trap Week. For those of you who may have missed our previous posts, here’s the run down. Night 1, Night 2, Night 3, Night 4, Night 5.
Kelly is running for her life from the vicious augers who seem to be multiplying this late into the evening, only to be rescued by Cousin Tony. No longer afraid to show off his vampyric prowess, he shoots lightening bolts from his palms and scares the augers away. Kelly tries to catch her breath, but Tony turns his attention to stalking her up the staircase. Just before he lunges toward Kelly, she yells to mission control to trigger the trap. In a puff of smoke, the staircase turns into a slide and chutes Cousin Tony down into oblivion. Exhausted and relieved, our poor Kelly slumps into a pile on the stairs.
The Martins return through the backdoor of their estate. Victor immediately senses that something is afoot, so he splits up with Shelia to reconvene with the kids.
Meanwhile the SCAT team has shown up in full force to infiltrate the nefarious house, and rescue the remaining girls. They blast away some augers and examine one of the bodies. When they partially unveil the corpse, we get our first glimpse of the rotten flesh conceiled beneath those black masks. It looks like the actor who lifts the mask actually rips some of the rubberized auger makeup and throws it on the ground.
Victor and Sheila meet up with their daughter Sara in the living room. Sara informs her parents that the augers are running around the house and that someone has taken control of the cameras and traps.
Suddenly the front door flies open and all of the SCAT force busts into the house. Kelly thanks them for saving her life and the Martins enter the foyer wondering where all of these uniformed individuals came from. Victor then invites everyone into the living room for a little Q and A session.
Sims explains that the Martin house has been under surveillance for some time because of the disappearance of several kids in the area. Undeterred, the Martins explain that they have been feeding the half vampire, half human augers by snagging kids in their house with the traps. All of the traps were designed by Sheila and built by Victor. How tender, the couple that kills together, stays together. They’re the most loving couple I’ve seen since Mikey and Mallory. Once trapped, the Martins drain the bodies of blood, keep some for themselves, then feed the rest to the augers. The augers are people who have been drained of their blood by a vampire and left for dead. The corpses begin to rot, but they thirst for blood and must feed in order to stay alive. If they consume enough blood, then they will turn into a full-fledged vampire.
For the rest of the Night, make the jump.
When Jeff returns all hell breaks loose. Victor commands his family to take care of the situation. One SCAT member rushes Victor, but with one hand he flips the agent over his head and out of the window. Collins shoots Victor at point blank range, and he just laughs in Collins’ face. Collins is taken down by an auger from outside. Sheila forces Sims down to the ground with one perfectly manicured hand. We loose another SCAT member in the bookcase trap with Jeff.
Terrified, Kelly escapes to the foyer and up the stairs to the second floor. She is at wits end at this point, screaming to control for help. You are her only salvation now. All of the SCAT members are gone and she is crying to you to save her hide. The remaining Martins chase Kelly up the stairs. Trapped between the augers and the Martins, she runs into the bedroom.
Kelly is growing increasingly distraught and is screaming for help into the camera every chance she gets. Sheila approaches Kelly only to be stopped by the best trap in the house. The old 1, 2 closet and Murphy bed combo. Sheila never knew about this trap, because Victor was going to surprise her one day. With Sheila disposed of, they all run into the bathroom. Victor sets suckered into the wall trap next to the toilet. Considering that he built all of the traps I find it highly dubious that he would fall for any of them. Well this whole production is highly dubious to begin with, so I guess it’s not hard to believe.
The milliseconds tick away as the final confrontation is at hand. Kelly and Sara have a stand off in the hallway. Sara thinks that she has this one in the bag, but in an instant two glass panels trap her in the center of the hallway. In a puff of smoke and a glaring bright heat lamp, Sara is vaporized and Kelly experiences the first truly lucid moment of her life. She thanks you for all of your hard word and says that if she has to go on assignment again, she would feel secure with you at the controls. As she passes the trap, she jokingly turns around to tell you, “Naw, you wouldn’t.” Then she walks down the hallway, gracefully turns around to wave goodbye one last time, and descends the stairs into the placid night.
It always makes my eyes a little moist when I see Kelly leave us like that. After all that we’ve been through, after all of the sacrifice, you can lose her in an instant. Fortunately all you have to do is hit the reset button and play it again, Sam.
There are many secrets in the game, because all of the footage you witness is happening simultaneously. You can’t catch all of this footage one time through. You have to play it repeatedly to learn about all of the characters, and the augers. It is quite difficult to trap all of the augers and the Martins in order to get the best ending. If you do catch all of the augers, you are treated to one final decision. You get the opportunity to trap Kelly when she passes the trap, after you dispose of Sara. One faithful Night Trap fan and YouTube user by the name of Hat Person uploaded the footage. So I can present to you the alternate ending of Night Trap. Enjoy!
Join us again tomorrow for a recap of this week, and some more footage I scrounged up for the conclusion of Night Trap Week.

BRAVO! *CLAPS*
"A trap closet?"
"It was suppose to be a surprise!"
He, the alternative ending my favorite. She got what she deserved. "Leaving me like that after all we've been through", hey! You were going to do the same thing!
