Night Trap Week: Night 2, The Night Begins
Yesterday I kicked off Night Trap Week with a little backstory and controversy. Now I am proud to present the exposition of the game, where the Martins are introduced and the girls arrive.
Night Trap begins in the SCAT team trailer with a briefing by Sims, the attack squad commander. Sims instructs the player how to monitor the surveillance system and reveals Kelly as an undercover agent.
The Martin family is introduced inside of the house as they prepare for the weekend. Jeff and cousin Tony bring some boxes from the basement outside. Mr. and Mrs. Martin have a saucy exchange, while Sara greets the girls in the driveway. Cindy, Ashley, Megan, Lisa, Danny, and Kelly arrive in a rousing chorus of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Just what I want to see come rolling into my estate, a bunch of girls on the brink of singing the entirety of 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall. No thank you. Anywho, the girls are shown to their room and the Martins leave.
Not much happens in the first few minutes of the game, besides some heavy-handed foreshadowing, dramatic sound queues, and some nauseating overacting. Notice how much the Martins talk about the Augers. Also who is that Weird Eddie, and why is he hanging about? What was that shadowy figure on the roof? Why do the Martins have so many secret passages? All questions will be answered soon enough. Patience my dear, we have all night.
Sit back, pour yourself a nice Chianti, and bask in the wonders of gigantic hair, even larger shoulder pads, pocket change production values and our mistress of the night, Ms. Dana Plato.

the SCAT team, eh? that's an unfortunate name.
Yeah I went to one of those parties once, I thought I was getting myself into an evening of improvisational jazz. Well, I was sorely disappointed.

i loved night trap... i actually still have the original for my sega cd... i have not played it in a long long time... i think i will tonight after seeing that clip... thanks toots for brining this classic back to life ;)
