Pokemon Battle Revolution Brings Online Gaming to Wii

Pokemon Battle Revolution

This week, Pokemon Battle Revolution hits the Nintendo Wii bringing with a few firsts for the system. Among those firsts is online gaming. In a press release this morning, Nintendo made a short list of the firsts brought to us by Pokemon Battle Revolution, and they are:

  • The first online Wii game in the Americas.
  • The first Pokemon game for Wii.
  • The first Wii game to wirelessly link to Nintendo DS(TM).
  • The first Wii game that lets players use their Nintendo DS as a controller.

Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, you still need friend codes in order to play with other people via Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection network. Thank goodness for websites where people post their Wii Friend Codes. Some people post their Friend Codes right here in our own forums! So be sure to rummage through the forums if you want to have a gay old Pokemon time.

Getting back to the game, I really like the idea of being able to use the DS (up to 4) as a controller using the same "battle interface found in the DS games." I've been waiting for that to be implemented for quite a while now and I look forward to seeing it in other games. This game has a variety of battle modes and the action is narrated by the same announcer from the Pokemon TV show. As expected, players will also be able to use the Pokemon that they have raised in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the DS. There seems to be a whole lot going on in this game. So, if you'd like more information visit this website or make the jump for the full press release.

Online Gaming Storms Onto Wii With Pokemon Battle Revolution

Epic Franchise Reaches Several Firsts

REDMOND, Wash., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's launch of Pokemon(R)
Battle Revolution heralds a number of firsts for Nintendo's hot-selling
Wii(TM) video game system. Pokemon Battle Revolution is:

-- The first online Wii game in the Americas.
-- The first Pokemon game for Wii.
-- The first Wii game to wirelessly link to Nintendo DS(TM).
-- The first Wii game that lets players use their Nintendo DS as a
controller.

Pokemon Battle Revolution is set to become a groundbreaking smash hit this
summer.

In battles using Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming
service, players can use their Wii Remote(TM) to compete with friends after
exchanging friend codes, or against players of comparable skill. The game
automatically searches for other players who are online. The sights and sounds
of the game bring the action to life as well: The beautiful graphics show each
move in full detail, while the action is narrated by the same announcer from
the Pokemon TV show.

The game contains a number of battle modes for different kinds of play. In
Colosseum Battle Mode, players have 10 different Colosseums in which to stage
their epic challenges. In Nintendo DS Battle Mode, players battle Pokemon that
they have raised in their Nintendo DS Pokemon(R) Diamond and Pokemon(R) Pearl
games. Up to four players can use their Nintendo DS systems as a wireless
controller, which uses the same battle interface found in the DS games.

"Already more than 2 million copies of Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl
have sold in the United States alone," says George Harrison, Nintendo of
America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications.
"The arrival of Pokemon Battle Revolution brings those players a whole new set
of challenges and, for the first time on Wii, online battles."

Online setup is extremely easy, even for novices. With a few clicks,
players are instantly connected, whether they're using a Wii Remote or a
Nintendo DS as a controller.

Trainers are fully customizable. Players can select one of three female or
three male Trainers and outfit them with clothing, hats and glasses after
earning points during competition. Players can even create personalized
in-game text for their Trainers to use when they win or lose a battle.

Pokemon Battle Revolution, rated E for Everyone, launches June 25. For
more information about the game, visit http://www.pokemon-games.com. The
Official Nintendo Pokemon Battle Revolution Player's Guide is now available at
retail.

You know, I have never played a Pokemon game. Maybe this will be the first one I try. It looks pretty interesting and fun, but I'm afraid I'll get so addicted that I end up forsaking all other games (not to mention personal and professional responsibilities).

You don't need friend codes to match up with people over Wi-Fi if I understand correctly... You can use their "rank" system, where it pairs you up with people from all over the world that have a similar skill level to your own. But there are friend codes in there so you can play your specific friends.

adempton is correct. Friend codes are only necessary if you wish to play against a particular person. If you're happy playing against a random person without knowing anything about them, battle revolution has your back.

yay! i was hoping this would be the game that makes use of the the wireless communication between the DS and the Wii. i look forward to many other games, i don't actually have the Wii yet, but this is just one more reason for me to pick one up. i do have Pokemon Diamond, and i'm working on 490 collection. which is madness, lol. but i'm sure i'll enjoy playing them on the big screen with the moves being actually acted out. i hope there some kind of story mode though. because stadium fights only get kind of old. it's like an rpg version of soul calibur

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
