Sixaxis Is Ready To Rumble (Maybe)

sixaxisrumble.jpg

It looks like the PS3 controllers are finally going to have a rumble feature installed, now that the lawsuit between Sony and Immersion is over. Playstation Magazine France seems to think this is not a rumor and, as a result, has decided to give us some details about the rumblepack's return. Unfortunately, the details are originally in French, so the English translation sucks eggs... I would've gone to the trouble of translating it myself, except I don't speak French based on the principal that it's unpatriotic:

the gyroscopic functions can cohabit with the vibrations. The explanation? The speed to which a player can move the lever is quite lower at the speed of the vibrations. - the engine of vibration could be inclu in the lever without having to modify the form of it. There is enough place for the new engine, and this one, concus by Immersion, are lighter for an obstruction equivalent. - One indeed has to expect a reduction in the autonomy of Sixaxis. Nevertheless, the new engine of vibration does not consume more than the old models (Dualshock) in spite of the fact that it is more powerful. - the new engine is less expensive to build, and a possible rise in price of the pad should be only very light. - With an update of the firmware, we will be able to have the vibrations for plays PS2

Um... great. Yeah. < thumbs up! > I'm still not shelling out $599 for a video game console.

All right! This is good news for sure. I wonder when we can expect to see these in store.

Thank god this lawsuit is over.

And c'mon boy of tomorrow... you'll pay $499 for a machine that bricks itself regularly and sounds like a wind tunnel, but won't buy a blu-ray capable PS3? Put your comic riches to good use! :)

D'oh! 360 is only $399... ok fair enough. My bad...

Actually, I didn't pay anything for it. I used to write for an official Xbox fansite, so I got mine for free :)

I wonder how long it will be, if at all. The lawsuit between Sony and Immersion may be settled, but Microsoft has filed suit against Immersion for breach of contract. After Microsoft and Immersion settled their suit, a clause in their contract stipulated that a settlement between Immersion and Sony would require Immersion to pay Microsoft nearly 30 million dollars.

You can read about it here: http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/microsoft/archives/116859.asp
