Sony CEO Wants to 'Refine' PS3 Price

The wheels are definitely in motion for dropping that steep price tag of the PS3. Sony CEO Howard Stringer has claimed that they are going to “refine” the price of the PS3. In a recent interview with the Financial Times, he stated:
"[PS3 pricing] is what we’re studying at the moment; that’s what we’re trying to refine"
There you go, straight from the horse’s mouth. Since the announcement of the system, just about every gamer that I have come across has complained about the price of the console. Even die hard Sony fans have scoffed at the price tags. The only ones who are gung ho about the system are trust fund babies. Well, I don’t have a trust fund, or a PS3. You make the connection.
Now the system is loaded, I give you that. You do get a lot of power for the price. But the point being, It’s ridiculous to spend that much money on a gaming machine. Before you say, ‘Well, it does all of these other things, you can run Linux on it.’ I don’t give a flying crap about running Linux on a gaming machine. Give me games that I can afford that will wow and astound me. Period.
Don’t get me wrong, I want a PS3 badly, very badly, but I won’t be purchasing one until that price comes down or Sony ships one to my chamber in the Castle. So I ask you, uncle daddy Stringer, do a gamer right and shave some dollars off that system. Pretty please, with sugar on top.
Sony CEO Talks PS3 Price "Refinement" [Next Generation]

Omg, YES! My broke, 16yr old ass can't afford a $600 piece of crap, er....equipment.
anyway, I hope they go forward to dropping the price a couple hundred. How nice would that be? Very.
your 16yr old ass? :) LOL
my 34 yr old ass can't afford it, either! :)
Cory - you can tell you havent got one - your ignorance is monumental. PS3 is the most beautiful, sublime piece of technological engineering ever put before gamers. People get sick of moaning Americans. I paid the equivalent of $850 here in the UK and it was worth every single penny. I own both of the HD consoles and I love them both- but the 360 is clunky, noisy and unreliable. The PS3 is only in its infancy but when you see demos of games such as Ninja Gaiden Sigma running in 1080p on a HD screen its beyond belief. It is whisper quiet, reliable and is the lambourghini of consoles. I love it. People who slag it off are either ignorant or plain jealous. Games such as HAZE which I downloaded the trailer for today show the world the sheer unbelievable power of the king of consoles. You get what you pay for in this world.
I only hope the price drop happens this holiday season when all the great PS3 games are suppose to come out!
To Carl:
Yes, there is a lot of potential with the PS3, and you might think its worth the pennies you paid for it. But wait til I get one for less money that you paid. *evil*
PS3 is an amazing amount of technology, granted, but there arent any I want to play on that at the moment. I'll be waiting for GT5 and FFXIII before I dish out for a PS3.
I can run Linux on my DS, but I seldom do. I have a laptop for that. (The web browser, though, sure.)
The PS3 has not demonstrated that it would give me 600 bucks worth of fun over its lifespan. If it ever does demonstrate that, its price will probably be down below 200 bucks, like when I bought the PS2. Worth every penny of that $129.
But I'm not holding my breath.... with only one exception in 30 years (the SNES), the most powerful console in a given generation ends up beaten by a technically inferior competitor, with fewer and lower quality games to show off its power because developers want to target the larger audience. In this case, there are two larger audiences - the 360 and the Wii. Their only remaining hope for market dominance is that people will buy it as a cheap Blu-ray player, and the few videophiles I know aren't gamers and have already bought into HD-DVD.
But yeah, MGS4 and Haze and FFXIII will so rock. Just you wait. And wait. And maybe rock back and forth a little while hugging your knees.
Carl:
Are you a shill working for Sony?
