Sony's New Blog Actually Tells The Truth, We Think

After the trainwreck of year it's been for Sony, I suppose sniping at the company for being tight-lipped is a bit of lost cause - and hoping for some kind of transparency regarding hardware, firmware updates, compatibility, forthcoming games, etc, is probably downright silly.
And yet, here we are.
After the disaster that was/is ThreeSpeech, Sony's "semi-official" blog, AKA marketing and PR-orchestrated facade, the last thing I expected from the new PlayStation.Blog was any kind of simple, forthright, direct communication between the PlayStation people and the PlayStation users.
And yet, here we are.
Not only was the blog an excellent place for Sony to mention that, yes, God of War: Chains of Olympus will indeed use the PSP's recently-unlocked processing power, but yesterday the blog posted an actual description of what the next PS3 firmware update will accomplish. Written, presumably, by an actual person. Addressing actual user complaints.
Make the jump to hear the good news and see Sony taking baby steps toward decent customer relations.
Hey everyone, you told us you wanted to hear about updates a few days in advance, so here’s a quick heads up that we have a PS3 firmware update in the works. Scheduled for release in the next few days, firmware 1.82 is an update that enables the playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) files. As most of you know, these are high quality files that you’ll now be able to play on your PS3. Hopefully this update is moving us closer to the audio playback features many of you commented about in my post the other week. We’re continuing to evaluate and improve things across the board, including PS2 software compatibility. I’ll chime in here quickly with an update once the firmware is live and ready. Thanks for all of your support and feedback, keep it coming!
So 1.82 isn't going to be a biggie, but we know what it will do to our PS3s, which is a far cry from the half-truths and vaguery we've encountered before. Does this usher in a new era in Sony customer care? Don't hold your breath, but please do enjoy the moment.
Firmware 1.82 Coming Soon… [PlayStation.Blog]

I'm really liking the Playstation.Blog. It's very candid and has a great atmosphere. Seeing Jack Tretton post his own feelings publicly on it was great.
They're gonna spin it to make them look great, that's what a company is supposed to do. I'm still enjoying it, so long as someone isn't using it for their ONLY source of PS3 news.
