Rumor: Sony's PS-Wii On The Way?

Yes, I know it should be a PS2 back there...

OK, so EGM is pretty good with sniffing out the good and the bad rumors. However, this particular one has left me in a state of disgusted disbelief even though it has been floating around for a while now. The rumor, you might be wondering, is that Sony is developing a modified PS2 that will take advantage of motion sensing controls...much like its cousin, the Nintendo Wii. Not only will it try to ride the coattails of Nintendo's success, but it would enter the market this holiday season at a price lower than the Wii's. Ridiculous? I think so.

Wired's Chris Kohler weighs in with this response:

Yes, this is just a rumor for the time being, but EGM's got a pretty good track record. I really hope for Sony's sake, though, that this isn't true. If so, it would be strong evidence that Sony is a company without a rudder. Without a clear vision of the future. With no idea which way the wind is blowing. A follower, not a leader.

What this will really do is validate Nintendo's strategy. Even now, there are still quite a few people who believe that Nintendo's bubble is ready to burst at any moment. But if Sony follows right behind them, all that's going to do is solidify Nintendo's position. If Sony goes forward with such a product, they'll be sending a very strong message to consumers that Nintendo was right all along and that this is the wave of the future.

So, do you agree with him? I certainly do. The thought of that happening is mind blowingly ridiculous and I would very much like to put this rumor in the trash bin. Fortunately, Sony has responded and said this rumor is not true. False. A fabrication, even. ...but still, one can't just believe that. After all, how many times have rumors come out, a developer/manufacturer comes out to say 'such and such' is not in development and BAM! (taking a cue from Emeril), we see it on store shelves later that year? Far too many. Even though Sony has said it's false, please feel free to leave your own opinions on what if Sony DID go through with this silly little rumor?

PS Yes, I know it should be a PS2 in that picture.

Opinion: If Sony Releases a Wii-Like Controller... [Game|Life]

Just wanted to say that Sony does have a habit of duplicating Nintendo controller ideas. First the N64 introduced analog controls, then a year later we got the dual analog for the Playstation. Then Nintendo gave us the Rumble Pack and suddenly Sony's controller had vibration technology. And lo and behold, the Wii remote and nunchuck have a tilt feature, and right before the Playstation 3 comes out they introduce their new and improved 6 axis controller with *gasp* a tilt feature. So, while I agree that duplicating the full motion sensor feature of the Wii remote would be a pretty weak move on Sony's part, I wouldn't really be that surprised.

and the award for the most intelligent post of the year does NOT go toooo....

anyway..

fuck, what i am concerned about is not that SONY has done it before, but the fact that they somehow manage to get away with it...

of course this time is different, nintendo has made such a big deal about the wiimote that it would take a guy as dumb as the one who did not got the award to miss the fact that it is a copy...

nup, if they are doing it, i don't think they can get away with it this time... it would add another lawsuit for sony

I think it would be kinda nifty? I mean oh noes they're a copycat, but I wouldn't hate on them for that. The Wii's features are cool, but I rarely play it right now because, honestly, I am not a fan of party games, Zelda, Mario, and every other Nintendo trademark. If the PS3 did it, then that would be the perfect machine for me. Not only would it have the regular, normal controlling video games, but it could also have some fun crazy controlling Wii-ish games that are fun to play every now and then.

I was completely disgusted the moment I even saw the picture (good job gaygamer), I thought it was the actual thing...

One of my biggest pet peeves that I have is copy cats. You see them everyday, and everywhere you go. At work, your neighbors, on tv, and so on.
These people just can't come up with their own ideas.
So as soon as they see someone doing something that works, they emulate them.

It's like all these court shows on tv...
It was fine when it was just Judge Judy, and The People's Court.
Now everyone has their own court show. They get trashier, and trashier each time a new one pops up.

The same goes with Sony. I used to be a big fan of their products... and yes, I play my Wii on a very HUGE, awesome Sony TV... But as time goes by I'm loosing all my respect for them. (to the point that I might stop buying their electronics all together)

They copied the motion sensing, and then they saw how popular the Miis were becoming... all the sudden "Home" is coming out. Give me a F-ing break!

Come up with your own ideas. If they suck, then they suck... at least it was your OWN idea. Like Nintendo, and the Gamecube. It might've failed to an extent as a console, but at least Nintendo wasn't copying every innovative move the other companies were doing.

Sony is like a mindless hot chick. Beautiful on the outside, but completely empty on the inside, with nothing to offer besides her looks. That's how the PS3 is.
The graphics are absolutely beautiful, but the it lacks content. People don't fall "in love" with their games...

As for the Wii... It's like a girl (or a guy) who's an "8" in the looks department. Maybe even a 7. But it's got SO MUCH personality, that it turns it into a 15! People fall in love with Nintendo games, hence they are loyal to them.

Enough of my writing. lol.
Just one last thing...

Sony, you suck!

It wouldn't make much sense considering that the current PS2 library isn't equipped for motion sensing and the fact that, aside from the odd released game here and there, the system is on its way to be being put out to pasture.

And how would this add another lawsuit for Sony? It's not like Nintendo owns a monopoly on motion sensing technology.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
