Telsa Coil Sings Video Game Themes
I'm the last person to ask what the hell a Tesla coil is (I never grasped science, only science-fiction), so I'm just going to let the maker of this singing coil, Steve Ward, explain it:
This is a solid-state Tesla coil. The primary runs at its resonant frequency in the 41 KHz range, and is modulated from the control unit in order to generate the tones you hear. So just to explain a little further, yes, it is the actual high voltage sparks that are making the noise. Every cycle of the music is a burst of sparks at 41 KHz, triggered by digital circuitry at the end of a "long" piece of fiber optics.
It's pretty amazing, although I can't even begin to understand how that works...

Let's see... it either involves a squirrel and a potato... or is it three Tesla Troopers? Oh i can't remember no more! I played more games on my computer then staying awake in physic classes...
Nice touch with the tetris theme!
The electricity ionizes the air particles going through them. By controlling the frequency of the power passing between the 2 points you control how the air around it vibrates, and since each note is a different vibrating frequency, you can tune the power output to make different notes.
That is pretty damn cool :) I always knew something like that was possible, but I didn't think anyone would ever do it.
