Comic Con 07: Jericho Hands-On

In an effort to catch up on some of what we missed at E3, I made a point of making sure I got to check out Clive Barker's Jericho. I find it interesting that there are more and more FPS style games that are catching my eye these days and this is definitely one of them.
Jericho is a squad team based FPS that has you fighting an ancient evil across time. Meaning that each level takes place in a different time period creating a lot of beautifully varied environments. Each member of your squad has different paranormal powers that can be used to get through various parts of the game. abilities range from blasting through large objects, lighting people on fire, astral projection and even controlling the direction of bullets in flight. By switching back and forth between characters, you can be quite the unstoppable force.
Jericho also employs a similar "death" mechanic to Gears of War in that if one of your members is down, any of the others can heal them and get them back into the action. So the only way you can really "die' is if you're entire party gets wiped out. That said, it should be noted that Jericho is not a multi-player game. It's an extremely plot driven game and to that end was only created as a single player experience. As much as I like the multi-player factors of many games, it's nice to see titles like Jericho with real substance when it comes to plot and story.
The graphics are of course twisted and dark in the Clive Barker tradition and make great use of the power of the 360. The small portions of it I saw were just gorgeous and very much my style. One of the little FPS things I enjoyed was actually seeing female hands in front of me with painted fingernails, not something you see in your standard FPS. And of course my favorite little piece, seeing your own eye veins when you get hit and start losing health.
Look for Jericho to creep it's way on to your 360, PS3 and PC sometime in September of this year. You can also visit the game's official website here for lots of great screenshots and info.
