E3 07: Beautiful Katamari Hands-On

I just got back from the Namco Bandai where I was thrilled to be able to get a hands on with Beautiful Katamari. As the title implies, the game is absolutely gorgeous in it's new 720p format on the 360. The controls felt familiar and comfortable and were incredibly smooth. The little area where you go to your different missions, do your saves, etc had a full 3D look that is my absolute favorite of all three previous versions of the game.
This time around, The King of All Cosmos is playing tennis with his beard wife The Queen, when in a fit of athletic prowess, he serves the ball too hard and ends up creating a black hole which sucks everything out of the universe. Once again, it's up to the Prince to repopulate the galaxy by rolling up things with his katamari. The game boasts an all new wacky soundtrack, new levels and new over fifty cousins to find. Of course, the King has a fancy new outfit that opens at the belly to reveal his magnificent abs.
The gals showing me the game were highly amused to hear that the King is somewhat of a gay video game icon and were thrilled when I told them he made our 20 Gayest Game characters list. Even they had to agree that his sexuality is highly questionable and we had a good laugh over his "marriage" to the Queen.
According to the lovely Melody who showed me through the game and proved a formidable opponent in the versus mode, the rumors of BK appearing on the Wii are just that, RUMORS. When i asked about the cancellation of the PS3 version, she said this was also a rumor although when the game would see a PS3 release was yet to be determined.
A wonderful game and everything you've come to expect from Katamari in a stunning setting. All Katamari fans will (and should) be racing to get this one when it hits store shelves this fall and I, for one, will be right in the front of the line.

I feel it.. I feel the cosmos!
I bought a PS2 just for the original Katamari Damacy. I wonder if Beautiful Katamari will be what pushes me over the edge into 360-land....
360 = eventual PC version?
I can't wait for this game....so very excited!
