E3 07: Dragon Blade: Wrath Of Fire
D3Publisher of America continues its rise to stateside fame, and its showing at E3 included some interesting new titles in addition to those we saw at D3's press day in New York a few months ago (such as Dead Head Fred and Ben 10). One promising new title for the Wii is Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire, which as you can tell from the trailer aims to give us some less-cutesy, more traditionally cool fantasy-style action-adventure gameplay.
Developer LAND HO! (I can see the land, and please stop calling me that) has trumped up a story from one of the fave fantasy novelists of my teenage years, DragonLance best-seller Richard A. Knaak, who's also novelized Warcraft, Diablo and Age of Conan. Your quest is to retrieve shards of a sword imprisoning a benevolent dragon, and as you do so you'll gain powers that you'll use a two-handed Wii control scheme to control, emulating the dragon's hands, wings, tail, fire breath and more.
With not a ton of hack'n'slash fun out already on the Wii, I was psyched to see Dragon Blade for that reason alone, and the upgradeable powers and abilities of the dragon that you collect had enough simplified RPG elements to double my fun. We'll be looking for this one when it lands on the Wii this fall. Till then, check out the debut trailer above!
