E3 07: Mario Kart Wii Press Conference

Fruit Brute and Tiny are at E3 as we speak, no doubt soaking in all of the information Reggie is spewing out form his stage. I, while I am working, am keeping a close eye on the proceedings via the magic that is the internet. One thing I was really hoping to see in the Nintendo conference was an announcement for Mario Kart Wii. Lo and behold, here it is! It doesn't really look that different from Mario Kart: Double Dash, but I'm sure we'll see more details both in writing and in pictures, soon. Besides, the major difference that is apparent will be the control style. I pride myself on being a master of pwnage on Mario Kart Wii, but Reggie assures those who are less skilled that they will be able to be on the asses of veteran players. We'll just see about that!

In addition to the announcement of Mario Kart Wii, Reggie presented to the audience a Steering Wheel (whiil, hahaha). unfortunately, the wheel didn't seem to garner that much attention. What did grab my attention, however, was that there will finally be online play with 32 players at once! That is going to be insane, my friends, and I look forward to such an...epic racing experience. So when can we look forward to Mario Kart Wii? It should hit the 1st quarter of 2008. Which isn't very far from now, thankfully. Are you excited? I'm looking forward to hearing more details, and we'll be bring them to you the instant they come our way!

If they're going to make 32-person races a feature, they have GOT to come up with some sort of online lobby area. Friend Codes are just not going to cut it when you get more than 4 people involved.

Umm I believe the 32-multiplayer was for Call of Duty or whatever the Army shooter was, Reggie I believe just said, "stay tuned" when he asked (rhetorically) how many people could play online.

Oh yes. Mario Kart online. Good times are coming.

Not sure how I feel about that racing wheel though.

I understand that beginnings need some help against veteran players so they don't get put off - unfortunately, it also means that working to become a veteran seems a little pointless.

32 player online sounds fantastic!

OK, I'm excited about Mario Kart, but the crowd seemed to have a pretty tepid response. I guess it's because they knew Nintendo would come out with another Mario Kart eventually (as did I) but, come on, how bout a little enthusiasm for poor Reggie up there.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
