E3 07: Zack & Wiki Gameplay
While RPGs are my main squeeze, puzzle based platform adventures provide me some much needed side-action. Zack & Wiki, which sometimes has the subtitle of "Quest for Barbaros' Treasure," is just one of these types of games, and although people may not understand, I am a man with needs! These kind of games, although often relegated to the genre of "kids' games," are just full of puzzle-solving, item collecting satisfaction. Unlocking portions of the levels with magical saws and a flying yellow monkey with cheerleading tendencies and likes calling you "boss?" What's not to love?
Sure it has a terrible name, and the sequence in this video of "wood sawing" is pretty inappropriate, but I'm rather excited for this title. It combines my love of pirates with my love of all things ultra-cute and cel shaded, and anytime I see a level showing me my percentage complete I know I have hours of fun/creepy obsessive compulsion on the way. And that is a beautiful thing.
Excited as I am, I have to ask what exactly happened at the end of this video. The bridge collapsed, right? So why is it whole again when the camera pans back up? Is this a bug? Perhaps the volcanic gases messing with the player's mind? Or maybe just a diabolical magic bridge? All this and more will be revealed as further details of the game surface.

Playing this game for the GameTrailer.com site, I was impressed by the ability to pick up the controls quickly. Your pal, Wiki, assists you whenever you get stuck on a part, so the game play never gets too difficult. Looking at the level as a whole, it'll be a nice change of pace from the mostly violence-driven games that were nearly everywhere at E3.
In all seriousness, how old are you?
