EIEI0 07: Insecticide

While Tiny was off in MMO land, I decided to dive into the world of intrigue and insects with Insecticide. Taking inspiration from a variety of genres including hard boiled detective movies and Film Noir. The title is being developed for simultaneous release on the DS and PC, but both games will essentially be the same. One of the things that struck me most (and had me interested int he first place) was the art style of the game that was very distinct, slightly familiar, but dicidedly original. When i found out that the designer had also worked on the amazing Psychonauts, it all started making sense.
Insecticide puts you in the role of female bug detective Chrys Liszt and her partner Roachy Caruthers as they get involved in a tangled web of murder and mystery. Using Chrys' detective skillls and keen set of bug weaponry, you fight your way through enemies to unravel the truth behind the killing. I got to try out a little of the DS version and it was a fun little few minutes of play, controlling smoothly and animating great (this gal has four legs, can you imagine animating that?). The fighting bits were fun and the platforming levels definitely required some skill.
One more great title coming out of Gamecock! As a new company, I think they will do very well for themselves. Every title we saw from them was imaginative, fun and exciting, just like the company themselves. I look forward to trying out everything they have to offer in the next year and beyond. In a world where so many games look and play the same, Gamecock is an oasis of originality in a world of mediocrity.
