Japanese Famicom Ads From The Eighties
It's time for four minutes and 22 seconds of 80s Japanese retro goodness! This video is a collection of Famicom (NES) television commercials showcasing such games as ExciteBike, Ice Climber and, of course, Super Mario Bros. I wonder what started the shift away from showing people playing games on consoles? Gizmodo points out that the ads for the Wii and Famicom are similar, but look at Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We don't typically see anyone playing games on those consoles, and from Sony, we get demonic babies and Cesar Romero look-a-likes with drag queens and exploding suitcases.

I find it interesting that the gun advertised with the famicom looks more like a real gun than, obviously, the "zapper" that you could get for the NES.
While I'm sure the information as to "why" is out there, I also find it interesting the system looks completely different than the American NES.
Very interesting indeed.
