Mother Brain, Meet Matt Groening

In what must be the most postmodern design decision since Jenova Chen and Kellee Santiago popped out fl0w, Simpsons creator Matt Groening has announced that not only will he appear in The Simpsons Game, he'll be a boss. The end boss.
This is another giddily ironic tidbit in a game I never expected to look forward to: The Simpsons Game will attempt to parody every well-known game or series it can imagine, and it's that feat alone that will make me pick up the game even though it's been over a decade since I last got even remotely excited by a member of the little yellow family. Groening as the end boss is gravy, and he agrees:
"I'm a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game. It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going 'UGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!'"
It's a cute an pleasantly affected tie-off that the Simpsons' will meet their makers at the end of what must be the busiest year they've had since "Have a cow, man." Although somehow I doubt that anything you can do to Digital Groening will bring back Futurama.
Games should break the fourth wall like this more often. I know that when Tiny Dancer: Pirouette of Slaughter comes out for the 360, PS3, Wii and Dreamcast, I expect that Mama and Papa Tiny will be the final villains in my flatteringly photorealistic journey to save the world from suffering, war, and synthetic fabrics. Spring 2008.

I'm glad I could be the one to tell you, but Futurama IS coming back. There will be a few direct-to-DVD movies as well as a new series in 2008 when Comedy Central gets the syndication rights from Cartoon Network. The original cast is back as well!

YAY!
Yeah, get with the program Tiny.
