Mother Anthology From Starmen.net

EarthboundAnthology.jpg

It’s no secret around the castle that I am a huge Mother/Earthbound fan. Ever since I picked up that towering box for the SNES, I was hooked. So when it became apparent that Nintendo was not going to translate either the Mother 1+2 cart or the Mother 3 GBA titles, I became pretty pissed.

Since then, I have been following the fan translations closely. Starmen.net and Mother3.org have undergone a noble effort for some time by translating Mother 3 to English, to provide the true fans with one more adventure. They recently combined forces to speed up the translation process.

The folks over at Starmen.net have announced a call to arms for all Mother fans to seige Nintendo into finally buckling under the overwhelming weight of fandom and translate the damn game. You may choose any or all of the three avenues of harassment.

  • Call up a Nintendo Rep! Call 1-800-255-3700 – then hit “0” from Mon-Sat, 6AM-9PM PST. Tell them you want the MOTHER series in English, but be nice about it!
  • Mail Nintendo a Postcard! Choose from over 100 postcards, print it out, write a message, and mail it!
  • Envelope Art Attack! Draw something Earthbound-related and mail it to Jonk. All envelope art will be delivered to Nintendo Power in person!

These guys are dedicated beyond belief. Besides the litany of fan submissions to Nintendo for their cause, Starmen.net gathered up 750 pieces of fan art, and media to assemble the ultimate love letter for the series called the Earthbound Anthology.

For a list of the incredible elements included in the book, make the jump.

The book is a testament to the creativity the game inspires in fandom and the saga of Shigesato Itoi's Earthbound series. The staff at Starmen wrote all of the content and captions accompanying each piece of artwork. There are 250+ pages dedicated to Earthbound and its future in America, 160+ pages of Mother 1 + 2 artwork, 50 pages of Mother 3 art, and 30 pages about the failure of Mother in the States.

Included are several CDs and DVDs of fan created media such as the Rock Candy series of albums inspired by the original Earthbound music, spanning over 5 albums. Bound Together: An Earthbound Remix Project of over 48 songs remixed by various artists, totaling at almost 3 hours of tunes.

Besides music, there are some live-action public stunt video segments called /earthbound. There is also a collection of random ran videos from musical performances to skits.

The initial printing of the Earthbound Anthology was limited to 16 copies and sent to various publications such as EGM, IGN, Gamespot, Nintendo, Destructoid and then some. We are awaiting our copy at the Castle. Alright all you Starmen, it’s you time for you to shine, just deliver the Earthbound Anthology to my doorstep and no one will get hurt. I promise. Reward and old Earthbound fan, and send me a copy. I guarantee to hold it in higher regard than my own autographed copy of the original Shroud of Turin.

Destructoid has posted a gallery of pictures from the stunning book, so head over and check it out. Unless you can't take the pulsing jealousy for not being able to have your own copy.

Bound Together is actually one of my most-listened albums on my iPod. It's not because I'm a huge EarthBound fan (though I do love the game). It's because the music is so varied and awesome. No matter what mood I'm in, there is something on that album I can connect with.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
