PlayStation 3 Drops $100 On July 12th!

CheapyD of CheapAssGamer was informed by one dutiful reader that starting July 15 until July 21, the PS3 will be in for a price drop of $100 "Circuit City from 7/15 to 7/21 (according to their Sunday Ad)." GameDaily later confirmed that this price drop will indeed be 'retail-wide' starting July 12 after speaking to a "merchandising manager (who wished to remain anonymous) at one of the world's biggest retailers."
Could this be an indicator that a permanent price drop is on the way? ...or could this very well be the permanent price drop rumored to be announced at E3? I don't know, but if the price drop is permanent, I'll wait to get one with the b/f when there are more games [read: good games] out on the system. However, if it can still be combined with the 5 free Blu-Ray movies deal and the price-drop, I might could convince him to take the plunge much earlier than expected. Then again, we are in the midst of planning a move, so it might not be the most sound investment at this time.
So, given this new information, what are you most likely to do? Oh, I have to add that until we hear the word from the horse's mouth, I'm calling this a rumor...a highly likely rumor.

360 price-drop in t-minus 1 week and counting...
While I'm glad the system is getting a price drop, I wonder how it will effect sales. $500 is still a lot of money for a system still struggling with building a library (no offense, Resistance).
Just for the record, Speedy over at CAG is reliable source for flyer info, who regularly gets this 100% accurate flyer info 2-3 weeks in advance. Either this is the price drop we've been hearing about for months (since launch? lol just kidding!) or flyer is a misprint.
less money wastin' and more giant enemy crab!
He just kinding. Guess we can drop the 599 jokes now right?
And what of those who already bought it? will they get their money back?
The system is still too expensive even with the price drop and the 5 movies. Besides, it's just an invite to get involved in buying blu-ray movies - and they're ridiculously over priced.
I'd rather buy a $200 HD-DVD player - I took a couple of my "regular" DVD's into Best Buy. The HD-DVD player actually makes my DVD's look better. The Blu-Ray made them look worse than it does on my equipment at home...
I hope this means that there will be a 360 price drop coming soon...
I think Microsoft will wait till September or October to announce their inevitable price drop (and possibly the discontinuation of the Core unit.)
It's also official @ Target - Jul. 12 has a $100 price drop, although no bundled movies (it actually happened a week early, but we pulled all units off the shelf - I work @ Target, btw.) If you happen to stop into a Target and they've got it on the shelf, it should ring up $499 - no guarantee's they won't bump it back to $599 by hand though.
