PSP Redesign, Slimmer, Faster, Sexier
Kaz Hirai kicked off his segment of the Sony E3 Press Conference with the official redesign of the PSP to be released in September. I have to say, meow! It’s a sexy slimmer beast. Here’s the rundown of the new features:
- 33% lighter
- 19% slimmer
- improved battery life
- video output
- same screen as the current version
- still supports UMDs
For the fashion-conscience gamer on the go, the new PSP will come in a variety of colors to match any mood or outfit. Piano black, Ice Silver, Felicia Blue, Lavender Purple, Rose Pink and a special Pure White version with a picture of Darth Vader on the front. I plan on picking up a Rose Pink for my sassy summer wardrobe, and the cool Lavender Purple to compliment my ensembles for the blustery winter months. And the Piano black, for any occasion that demands tails, a monocle and a top hat.
All of the colors will be released in separate bundles. One will include a 1GB memory stick and Daxter, and the other will have the Family Guy “Freakin’ Sweet” UMD. The Darth Vader limited edition PSP will be bundled with Star Wars Battlefront. Every pack will cost an equally slim $199. Sounds like Sony finally made a deal with consumers. It’s about time.
Not only will you have a choice of colors, lower loading times because of improved data streaming capabilities, let’s not pass up the video output. Yes! Your PSP experience will no longer be confined to that crisp, beautiful screen. Plug that puppy right into your TV, and you have the best thing to happen to handhelds since the SEGA Nomad. Play in the palms of you hands, or relaxed on the sofa in front of your huge HDTV.

I know what I'm getting for my birthday! Glad I waited. ^_^
I might trade up. I'm sure EB/Gamestop will have some sort of promotion for this.
The battery life needs to be mucho-ly improved though for me to get one.
No button redesign?
Unf. I'm all about that video output. Suddenly UMD movies make sense! And games on my 32" Bravia will be nice, too. Glad I waited to get another PSP...

About time someone other than the Chinese famiclone makers put out a mass-market handheld with video output.
But I'll have to see it next to a current PSP to understand how it's any different, and honestly, lavender? I love purple, but hook me up with some cobalt blue, please.

I'm glad I waited! Now I can buy Casltvania Dracula X Chronicles on a nice, new PSP. I had no idea about the lavender color, I'm all over that one! I LOVE purple, and I wish the DS had a purple version.
