Rough Trade Friday: Serenity Those Left Behind

In addition to being gay, registered comic book offender, gaming geek, nerd, slut, very very wealthy and maybe a wee bit vain, I'm also a browncoat. If you'd like a simple, easy-to-grasp analogy about the browncoat's fight against a evil centralized government, you may look to Washington D.C. and our current political system. It's scary similar, but don't worry browncoats are real, Washington D.C. is a myth.

Serenity: Those Left Behind
is the trade that bridges the gap between the series Firefly and the film Serenity. It closes up some nagging holes left by the early cancellation of the series and some glaring inconsistancies in the film. That being said, it's not merely a "mind the gap" story. Mal of the movie is a much darker Mal than in the series. Those Left Behind explores some changes in his character and the deepening of his resolve cleary evident in the cinematic incarnation. The fallout between Inara and Mal has its genesis here, and the more introspective Book begins his quest here.

This is a very quick read, but it is a nice visit to the 'Verse and helps to clarify and gives a new gravtias to the film "sequel" and the importance of the Tams. Its a must for any Firefly fans, and those of you left "meh" by Serenity might also check it out and see what all the fuss was about.

I've had this for a long time and still haven't read it. Maybe I'll pull it out after I finish Harry Potter.
