Sony, Sky Join Forces To Bring Video Content To UK PSPs

In a move that's sure to please PSP owners in the UK and Ireland, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced today a partnership with SKY, the UK's leading entertainment provider, to deliver on-demand video to the PSP. While we've known Sony has been moving toward the goal of on-demand video content (not to mention that online store we've heard about, which will surely beef up the PSP's metaphorical physique), the formation of a joint venture company between SCEE and SKY, which boasts 21 million viewers, is another solid move in the right direction.
It's certainly frustrating for consumers to wait for the features and content we know we'd love to see on the PSP, but Sony seems to know what they need to do. Despite the oft-hyped nine lives of the UMD format, I still think I'd be more likely to download shorter-form television programs and the occasional movie rather than add to my lonely little collection of UMDs.
Hopefully we'll see some more concrete developments of this sort Stateside as well, following up on the Gamers Day talk back in May. In the meantime, let's while away the days and weeks by talking about our feelings: What's more important to the success of the PSP, downloadable video content or downloadable games?
Or make the jump to skip your stupid feelings and read the press release. And where's my whiskey, boy?
