Video: Bleach On Wii & DS
Ah, it sure is good to be back from Southern California and back in the gloomy environs of San Francisco. Sticky dry heat and smog and SUVs as far as the eye can see--well, it's all pretty overrated. Give me fog and bone-chilling wind any day. It's funny how it often takes leaving to realize how much you actually like something, minus all the daily cynicism.
Take Bleach for instance. A highly successful manga and anime in both the US and Japan, I've always kind of held disdain for the big, broad sketchy style of Tite Kubo and the simple storyline that focuses on one battle to the next. But after days with the family and being forced to watch ESPN--Bleach suddenly looks very good. It's pretty exciting, cinematic, filled with twists and turns, and most importantly, chock full of sexy guys.
Two new Bleach games are coming to North America in the fall--Bleach: Shattered Blade for the Wii, and Bleach: Blade of Fate for the DS. Both impressivly capture the look of the anime while still having the feel of a classic fighter while the dramatic sound effects splashes and completely necessary rock soundtracks are a nice touch. These are the kind of games you play late into the night, a little sweaty and stomach growling, desperately trying to win one last match. So yeah, maybe Bleach isn't so bad after all.

As a self-aware anime snob, I dislike Bleach mainly because of it's fanbase that I'm exposed to (See also: DBZ, Naruto). These shows aren't that bad (they are that great either), but their fans *can* be so irritating that they shouldn't be legally allowed to leave the confines of their local Hot Topic.
These games on the other hand look nice and reflect the anime/manga well (as little of it that I've seen). But who's developing these? Is the Bleach DS game made by Treasure or was that another one?
