Video: White Knight Story 2007 Trailer
There aren't many things I enjoy more than folky Japanese pop-rock in conjunction with high fantasy. Besides being the nerdiest sentence ever written, it always makes me think of one of my favorite anime shows from the 90s: The Vision of Escaflowne. To get more to the point, one of the hottest new RPG developer companies, Level 5, has been working on a PS3 exclusive title, and here is the latest trailer for it, White Knight Story. It has been interesting to see how the 3D anime inspired character has developed, from blocky FFVII shapes that often look like the building block work of a troubled child, to the perfect models of this game and say, Blue Dragon. Level 5 has been a pioneer in this endeavor.
I have to admit, there are some things I don't like. The character design is utterly boring, in my opinion. Just the same old group of anime characters and even the main boy character doesn't have much interest to him. This is a far cry from the entertaining and motley crew of their underappreciated PS2 action RPG, Rogue Galaxy. But the characters are well animated and lively in emotion, and that's definitely something of note.
On the other hand, the giant knights and the monsters are awe-inspiring in their girth and imposing danger. You can tell that this game's focus is on the big "danger moments" and fighting the impossible monsters. With a touch of medieval class.
Definitely something to keep our eyes on.
