Wii Outsells PS3 6 To 1 In Japan

The poor PS3 slips farther away from Nintendo’s lead in Japan. Recent figures reported by Reuters show that the Wii is still the best-selling home console in Japan, which is outselling the PS3 at a staggering ratio of 6 to 1. Nintendo pushed 270,974 Wii units in June whereas Sony managed to sell 41,628 PS3s. The gap has been widening between the two consoles for the past couple of months.
In April, the systems where selling at a rate of 4 to 1 in Nintendo’s favor, and 5 to 1 in May. The sales of the Wii do not seem to be slowing any time soon. Japanese gamers have spoken up with their console purchases and it seems that they enjoy the underpowered yet fun Wii over the high-octane but underdeveloped library of the PS3.
Even further solidifying Nintendo’s position in the lead of Japanese gaming, they managed to push 164,000 DS units in one week, which is more than all of the other home consoles combined.
It is really amazing to watch Nintendo come back in such a big way after years of struggling with poor console and hardware sales from the 64 to the GameCube. Both fine systems, but they never really caught on with the mainstream gamer. Now they are back with a vengeance and no one could have predicted their outrageous success of their dual-screened gamble and their tiny bundle of motion-sensitive joy.
Wii outselling PS3 by 6 to 1 in Japan [Games Industry Biz]

I've been a big fan of Nintendo since about 2001.... after a decade and a half of total indifference and/or dislike towards them. I guess Mario games seemed a little cooler when they went 3D (and Super Mario Sunshine is still the prettiest game I've ever played on any console) and when Nintendo stopped owning the entire world.
I hope Nintendo stays like they are now and doesn't go back to being the annoying, hubristic company I disliked so much in the early 90's. I hope the lesson they've learned sticks with them.
Wow if the wii is outselling ps3 6 to 1 the means the wii is outselling the 360 30 to 1 lol!!
The 360 actually outsold the PS3 in Japan for a few weeks last month. I would bet their numbers are a lot closer than 5 to 1.
