Video: Building Characters In Little Big Planet

The folks at Gamespot shot a video of character building within Little Big Planet with Mark Healey, the creative director of the game. They use the in-game creation system to rig up two wooden boxers by creating some simple wooden shapes, apply stickers to the pieces, and use the rotating gear parts to animate them.

The object creation system looks very intuitive and instantaneously gratifying. Players will be able to load textures from a memory stick, USB drive, or the PlayStation Eye and transfer them into the creation tools. The ability to stop the game to create anything on the fly will lend to some fantastic design possibilities. This will allow players to immediately build something and test it out in their level. While the platforming, teamwork, and gameplay are key mechanics of the game, the ability to create and customize everything in your play field is the selling point of this title. Look for this game to drop early next year.

It sounded like there was a lot of explanation going on for how to do things. I hope they will have a tutorial avaialable for people to look up (or at least a reference sheet for people to bring up). The engine looks quite impressive on how it can handle all of it on the fly.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
