Falling Blocks and Smashed Mushrooms: Fantastic Article on Two Video Game Record Holders
At some point or another everyone had done something in a video game and said "That has to be a record". After a quick trot to youtube most everyone has had their hopes dashed by someone who has more likely than not beaten your most recent display of video game prowess in a profound and stupifying way.
In Bizarro World by Billy Baker of The Boston Globe, We follow two people who surprisingly enough discovered quite the opposite. Andrew Gardikis, a Super Mario Bros. speed runner discusses his perfect play through (5 minutes 8 seconds) and what inspired him to try for that remarkable goal. Along side Andrew is a lovely woman named Lori Baker. After being pressured by her husband to compete for the world record of most lines cleared on the Game Boy edition of Tetris. By the end of the day she had decimated the highest score by more than double.
The article is quite a beefy piece of editorial work, 6 pages in length (pages 4+ require registration) and even has a matching video as seen above. It's worth a watching just to see how adorably humble Lori is.

The Mario Guy is Hot
I agree!
It's funny how casual they are both about it, especially the woman. And you'd think they'd have to be super nerdy or something but no, they're just really normal people.
"It's worth a watching just to see how adorably humble Lori is" ... AND to see how adorable her hubby is!
