LGBT Character of the Week: Living Lightning

Livlight.PNGThough around for a while, Living Lightning came to the forefront in Marvel's Civil War story arc. He was a prominant member of the Captain America's opposition force. He currently is a member of the Texas Rangers. He accidently outed himself in an encounter with the GLA (Great Lakes Avengers, not Gay/Lesbian Alliance).

Writer Dan Slott had this to say about Living Lightning:

"He's gay. Get over it. Previous girlfriends? Beards. Or relationships that just didn't work - because Miguel hadn't come to terms yet with who he really is. Miguel is a gay superhero and a wonderful role model."

Sounds pretty cut and dry to me.

I hazily remember Living Lightning from his West Coast Avengers days, but he never really stood out, or got much in the way of "screen time". Kudos for Dan Slott being so matter of fact about his coming out. Plenty of gay men have dated women in the past, and that fact isn't any indication of their steadfast status as a heterosexual. Hope we see more of him in the future. (As I have no idea what his powerset is)
