PAX 2007 Wrap-Up: Tabletop Rundown

PAXTG5.jpg

Aside from video game developers showing off their works and retailers pandering to the assemblage of high nerddom, representatives of video gaming's semi-estranged older brother, the tabletop game, were at PAX in force. Upper Deck, Wizards of the Coast, Privateer Press, Wizkids, Paizo, Fantasy Flight Games, all the big kids of the industry were there, trying to woo attendees away from their controllers with the siren song of clicky bases and rattling dice. And who would fall to their seductive call this year but Fruit Brute himself.

Hit the jump to check out a few glimpses of the plastic and cardboard hotness from the exhibitor hall floor, including Upperdeck's upcoming expansions to the World of Warcraft collectable card game, Wizkids's HaloClix, and something Uncivilized.

Upper Deck literally kept a tight lid on their upcoming Molten Core Raid Deck. The glass was probably there to keep WoW players from therapeutically tearing up the card of raid-buster Ragnaros.

This year's holiday gift must-have for your favorite WoW addict... becuase murlocs are still too hard to wrangle under a Christmas tree.

At the WizKids booth, Fruit Brute gets a lesson in Haloclix, which pretty much combines his two favorite things in the whole wide world: Halo 3 and clix-based strategy games. The neat thing about these, a lot of the new aliens and enemies from Halo 3 will be appearing in clicky form with Haloclix's release several days before the actual video game.

The upcoming Halo ActionClix Scarab Vehicle. At some point, these things stop being "miniatures."

A teaser for the little known "Gobilin Game," one of Wizards of the Coast's upcoming, pay-to-play Gleemax games.

Scary chicks and big swords at the Wizards of the Coast booth.

Even the blackout in the exhibitor hall on Sunday didn't stop the murderous Kill Doctor Lucky demos from going on at the Paizo booth.
