Blinded By The Light: PS3 + TiVo= PS3Vo?

I've never heard of the man, but Warwick Light, head of marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand, has been saying some crazy cool things about the PS3's eventual evolution, at least in New Zealand:
"[DLNA] is sort of a sharing format between compatible networked devices. It means I can have my laptop, and my PS3 can wirelessly detect movies, or music, or pictures stored on it and stream it to my TV. That content will appear on the PS3's X-media bar."
"We're also hoping next year – about the same time that Freeview launches its terrestrial broadcasting service (expected to be in March) – to release a digital tuner for the PS3, turning it into a programmable TV recorder."
That first bit we're already seeing (although my PS3 could be better at recognizing good porn from my PC - are you taking notes, Sony?), and this isn't the first time we've heard of Sony pairing up with a local megabroadcaster, either. And while the UK may be more than a test market, am I the only one who smells "guinea pig" at the sudden appearance of SCENZ? Is all this a trial run for Sony, TiVo and Time Warner to eat my television and sync me up with the hive mind?
Because that sounds neat.
Or is the multimedia push on the PS3 an example of the same kind of blurring of focus that occluded the PSP's performance? Wavering between gaming platform and portable media device without being very good at either, for a while, did not help define the PSP in the mind of the consumer the way Sony had wished, it seems. The PSP deserves credit for making mucho headway lately, but with the PS3's library still lacking in robustness - to say the least - could Sony be stretching another platform too thinly?
Or is convergence inevitable with a big black beauty like the PS3? Talk to me.
