Redesigned 360 On The Way?
Rumors abound over a redesigned Xbox 360 code named, Falcon. This new system, if it indeed is on the way, will include the much looked forward to 45nm processor. The president of Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing in Singapore, Chia Song Hwee, said "that the company is currently designing a smaller CPU for a gaming device." Now, keep in mind, CSM is responsible for the manufacturing of the 65nm processor. From CVG:
"We have customers' activity for products in the CPU space that goes into a video-game device," Chia Song Hwee said during a recent conference call with analysts.Although Hwee didn't specify that the smaller CPU was for use in Microsoft's next-gen console, his comments seem to back up a previous report by Dean Takahashi of The Mercury News in which the smaller processor and a redesigned 360, codenamed Falcon, were muted.
CVG reports that Hwee hinted at 2008 or early 2009 for the production of the new processor to being. No doubt that the smaller processor and upgraded functioning of the Xbox 360 would lead to future price cuts and, potentially, greater profit margins for Microsoft. Tis' good news, my friends. It's just a shame we'll have to wait until 2008 or 2009.

I believe you mean 65nm, not 45.
The source articles both state 45nm. I was suspicious at first, but after triple checking both sources, I find that I'm correct.
Ok this is really trying my patience! At first I say I'll wait because the xbox 360 might have a price cut like the xbox a bit after launch (in Europe).
Then I get the money put aside and learn about a 65nm version, so I wait some more.
Now there's going to be a 2nd 45nm version! It'll be the end of the 7th generation by the time I get it if I ket my logic control my emotions!
Apart from that it's good news.
The original 360 is 90 nm. The 65 nm 360 is the version that is coming out later this year. A 45 nm processor may well be under development for Microsoft or for some other company, but if so and this is not just some pervasive typo, then it is for some as yet unrevealed device.
