Rumbling Sixaxis Shakes The Hands Of Developers

sixaxislong.jpg

Innerbits, the platform where “game developers speak out” reports some interesting finds about the Sixaxis controller.

We can confirm that prototypes of the new rumble-enabled controllers have made their way to various Sony developers. Information on these controllers is still closely held by Sony and their partners, but an official announcement and unveiling is expected in the next two to three months. Leipzig is the most obvious guess for this unveiling, but we believe Sony is going to withhold the controllers until they can launch them to coincide with support from enough developers.

The omission of the rumble feature from the Sixaxis was a bad call from the start. It was a feature of the Dual Shock that helped heighten the immersion factor of PS2 titles. Sony, I implore you, bring the rumble back. Games are so much less stimulating without.

After playing some PS1/2 games on my PS3, I've sworn off rumble. All it does is make a lot of extra noise. It's distracting, not enhancing, and I think the omission ended up being a wise choice for battery life.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
