Touch Detective 2 1/2 Trailer
Atlus, the masters of style and quirky goodness, are at it again with Touch Detective 2 1/2. While the first title wasn't met with the warmest reception, the trailer for the follow up looks very fast paced and exciting! I've always wanted to try out Touch Detective with its large-eyed characters and cute female sleuth with spyglass in hand. If you've given it a shot, let us know what you thought about it. I always felt that the original game was underrated due to its size, it was a very enjoyable bite-size adventure. It had all the requisite mechanics for a proper adventure game experience, and each case had a nice plot to boot. I admit that the cases might have been little more than quirky slice-of-life stuff, but that was part of the charm.
The only negative part of the game really was the length, it was really quite short. I think this is where a lot of the negativity you'll hear from many comes from, but it doesn't really apply to me. I rented the game myself and completed it that way, and I didn't find it much different from renting a movie, or paying for an episode of the latest Sam & Max from Telltale Games. I admit though that at full price, it's a bit of a rip.
The original game then is definitely worth checking out, but only as a rental and not as a purchase. If they'd really lowered the selling price point for the original release, then I feel that the game would have done much, much better.
Atlus is one of the most brilliant publishers ever. Over the years, I've collected a ton of their games, and each one is a true original.
