Ubisoft's Girly New DS Games

It seems like everyone's playing the DS, from children to grandparents, so Ubisoft is creating the Imagine series of games targeted at girls aged 6 to 14. According to the press release:
"the Imagine line allows girls to explore their favorite interests and hobbies — as indicated in extensive lifestyle research on this audience — in an interactive and entertaining way."
I would love to see that "lifestyle research" myself. I'm not entirely sure that this is really the untapped demographic Ubisoft thinks it is, but the concepts sound interesting, and if they have the gameplay to match, they might even reach beyond the target audience of little girls. Or they could be an attempt at a quick buck with gameplay no better than a cell phone game.
We'll see. I know Tiny's got his eye on the figure skating game...
Make the jump to see the full list in its girly glory!
The first games in the series launching in October are:
- Imagine Fashion Designer, where you play a "hip" Manhattan fashionista creating your own line of clothing and directing photo shoots (minus the coked-up anorexic models, I'd wager).
- Imagine Animal Doctor, which lets you take care of sick (but probably still adorable) animals as you expand your veterinary empire.
- Imagine Babyz (the "z" lets you know these infants are extreeeeeme!), sounds like SimBabies, challening you to raise your little toddler, but presumably not as a pre-teen single mom.
- Imagine Master Chef, where you create reicpes from all over the world using the stylus to stir and cook... wait, isn't this already out? Wasn't it called Cooking Mama?
- Imagine Figure Skater won't be out until early 2008, but it might be worth the wait, as you play a figure skater balancing training, school and friends, competing in tournaments using the stylus to jump and spin. They need to combine this with Fashion Designer so you can make your own sequined costumes!

Talk about stereotypes...
Make more games like Princess Peach...
I sell SO many of those to girls who want DSs. They love platformers, so why not give them more of those games?
Too right, Oghma.
I think I would play the Fashion Designer if you did have to deal with the drama of the coked-up anorexic models. Keep all the bits about design and fashion but then as the "Boss" battle at the end you've got to keep your junky twigs from passing out or going psychotic.
Oh no... you forgot the model's rider requested only Red M&Ms in the green room! She has an emotional breakdown on the runway!
I'd buy the fashion designer game if it also involved kicking ass.
Now that's seeing your creations in action!
"My brass knuckles stamp hearts and stars into my opponents' faces! It's so hip!"
Hopefully theres a shitload of cooking sims.
or a Law and Order: SVU sim
And by "lifestyle research," did they just mean "stereotypical pretween, tween and teen girl interests"?
Girls want to be animal doctors? Or is playing vet considered a "hobby?"
So what's next? Imagine Fag Hag, Imagine Trophy Wife, Imagine Hollywood Beard?
I like the way Imagine Fag Hag sounds...i know pelnty'o'woman that would play that one...then again there already fag hags...and gamers...so nvm...=(
did any one else read it as imagine master chief....
