Video: Guild Wars: Eye Of The North Gameplay
At my brother's recent wedding I ran into the younger brother of one of my best friends in high school whom I've lost touch with. I asked him how my friend was doing and he told me that he had gotten married himself, and was now a father. Finding this particular concept to be slighly horrifying, I asked how he was taking to the role. The younger brother gave me a humorous look, seemed having trouble in what to say, and then said, "Well, he's really taking to it now, but for awhile we were worried--because for a long time after his daughter was born, he really only cared about World of Warcraft." I smiled. Now this was the friend I knew.
But we hear about this sort of thing all the time. What is it about MMORPGs that so effectively pulls people from their real lives? Um, could it be the fact that you can be the person you always wanted to be, in a world that is infinitely more interesting? Could it be the fact that hard work actually pays off and get's results? Could it be that going on a campaign with a group of friends seems infinitely more rewarding and gratifying than going out with your buddies and getting blasted? Perhaps.
Anyway, this is a gameplay demo of the upcoming (and looks to be final) expansion for that popular other MMORPG: Guild Wars: Eye of the North. The video is long, clocking in at over 10 minutes, but it will definitely be of interest to anyone who likes MMORPGs or Guild Wars in particular. I found it especially impressive that they included the Hall of Monuments that not only keeps track of your accomplishments, but allows you to cross them over into Guild Wars 2, so that veteran players from the previous Guild Wars have an instant advantage. Way to reward your loyal fans!
