Wii Shortages Continue

It doesn't seem like the Wii is ever going to stop selling. It has been nearly a year since the console was released and I still don't see them in stores. According to chip manufacturers in Taiwan, thanks to the limited supply of components Nintendo will not be able to expand it's production in the second half of 2007. Looks like it will be another tight Christmas for all those out there who have yet to snag themselves one. Every time I see news like this it just helps to remind me that that 26 hours in line at Wal-Mart was worth it.

Yeah, it just proves the point that it's who you know. I got the inside word from someone at Target as to when their shipment would arrive. So, I showed up an hour before they opened and got in line. I was number 36 out of 99 units available. Boo-yah!
It seems strange. I have heard this for a while now, but does it only apply to America, cos here in the UK are shortages have stopped since around April. Both amazon.co.uk and game.co.uk have them in stock.
I've also heard that there are many countries with Wiis in stock for a long time now. Couldn't Nintendo like shuffle these supply around?
Well, the systems are region protected. Theoretically, they could redirect production to the US market. I was #1 of 12... with 4 rain checks issued to the 13th through 16th people. I live in the middle of nowhere though.
Last week I saw them in stock at the local Best Buy and GameStop.... it was quite a shock.
Well, when I was in the Nintendo Store last weekend for the Boogie launch, I saw a pile of them behind the register, just sitting there. I didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure they weren't just empty boxes on display...
I was looking around the other day for one here... Nothing. Every store is out of them. Oh Canada.
